About Debra

Meet Debra Salowitz

Debra Storey Salowitz has more than 25 years of experience in many aspects of business and all aspects of community, including the arts, human services, and politics. During her career, she has held management positions in marketing, sales and service, public relations, and fund development. An accomplished strategic thinker, Debra has led community coalitions and championed causes ranging from education and human services to cultural advocacy.

Ever resourceful, she applied her skills as a communicator and problem-solver to her family's move to Des Moines from Connecticut in the fall of 2000. An 'anthropological approach' to her new hometown fostered a broad and deep connection to the community in a few short monthsand ultimately inspired the creation of Salowitz Relocation Solutions, LLC.

Debra has flourished in Des Moines, professionally as a project consultant on numerous accounts, and personally as a community activist in a variety of arenas, including:
  • Winefest 2005 (Interim Director; raised $100,000 for community arts organizations)
  • ImaginEve (Program Chair for 2001 inaugural event)
  • Des Moines Arts Festival (Various Committee Chairs)
  • Coalition of Human Service Providers (Steering Committee)
  • Ballet Theatre of Des Moines (Founding Board Member; drafted strategic plan that launched company in 2001)
  • Winefest 2003 (Volunteer Co-Chair)
  • Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament (Marketing Co-Chair)
  • Des Moines Gay Men's Chorus (Founding Board Member)
  • Chrysalis Foundation (Board and Grant Review Committee)
  • Friends of Iowa Commission on the Status of Women
  • Delegate to Polk County and State Democratic Conventions (2004)
  • Central Iowa Society for Human Resource Management (CISHRM)
  • National Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
  • Nexus Executive Women's Alliance

Debra genuinely loves Des Moines and is passionate about helping individuals hired and relocated by her corporate clients forge their own unique connections to the community. She believes that recruiting and retaining talented executives and their families serves the best interests of both the corporations who hire them and the communities in which they settle. And she knows that her unique process for creating successful relocations is in the best interests of those executives and their families.
